LOCAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
The Madeira Islands natural beauty and spring-like climate all year round, make it one of the most desirable holiday destinations.
Known as the "Pearl or the Garden of the Atlantic", Madeira Island is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Europe, with thousands of tourists returning every year. This volcanic island is known for its subtropical climate, where spring is always in the air, for the mild temperature of the water, for its impressive mountains that drop down to the sea, its gardens of exotic flowers, the renowned Madeira wine, the spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks and, of course, for its most famous export –international footballer Cristiano Ronaldo..
Founded in 1572, the parish of Arco da Calheta is set between the mountains and got its name from the surrounding hills and its proximity to the parish of Calheta.
After the discovery of the island this parish was one of the first to be submitted to huge agricultural explorations, giving origin to extensive lands with noble houses, chapels and cultivated areas.
